The Electric Shocking Liar Game Reloaded, now with adjustable shock, is a perfect way to detect a fibber among your ranks. With a built-in lie detector, this shock game will display the truth of an answer on a handy LED meter with two settings, truth and lie, and a light-up spectrum in between. Just have the accused put his or her hand in the strap, and the machine will monitor the person's vital statistics, to be used as a point of comparison during questioning. If, when answering a question, all of the lie levels light up, the liar will receive a nasty shock! Filter out the liars among your friends (or enemies) with this clever lie detector game. The KX-TG5571M 5.8 GHz cordless phone system from Panasonic offers digital FHSS signal reception for clear, secure calls, plus lots of room to grow. An integrated digital answering system provides up to 21 minutes of recording time, remote operation, and an LCD message counter. The KX-TG5571M also features Call Waiting, Talking Caller ID and Caller IQ Plus compatibility. A light-up antenna alerts you to new calls silently, if you choose, while versatile ringer options let you choose from three sound patterns, four melodies, or even customized ring tones that you can record yourself.

Additional features include base and handset speakerphone capabilities, four-way conferencing (requires additional handsets), and an intercom system that allows communication between handsets and between the base unit and individual handsets. Mute, hold, flash, redial (last number dialed from the base, last five numbers from the handset), and dual keypad and display round out the feature set.

The system includes a single, metallic grey handset (model KX-TGA552M) that can be expanded to a total of eight (compatible handset models include KX-TGA552M, KX-TGA551M, and KX-TGA550M). Accessory handsets do not require separate phone jacks--just plug the charging cradle into a power outlet, and the handset will automatically configure itself to the base system.

Is Dead

De La Soul burned out on their own hype fast, and their dark, strange second album is a counter-blast to their image and hip-hop culture: perverse, dissatisfied, sometimes brilliant, sometimes out of control. Occasionally it seems mean-spirited--the single "Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)" finds them grousing about getting deluged by demo tapes, and "Kicked Out The House" is a nasty (if very funny) parody of hip-house. But no one's ever made a rap album that sounds like this. Sickly out-of-tune loops drift in and out; songs derail themselves with loud sneers, or give way to bizarre dialogues; Posdnuos and Trugoy chant together like the words have lost all meaning. The concept that ties the disc together---an imaginary radio station called WRMS--gives it an extra kick. --Douglas Wolk


Stone Sour

After validating every stripe of teen torment when working as masked members of Slipknot, vocalist Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root offer fans a chance to explore the sounds of their former, failed hard rock band, Stone Sour. Formed in 1992 and retired in 1997, Stone Sour played soulful, metallic hard rock in the vein of Alice in Chains, traces of which later appeared in looser, guitar-oriented Slipknot numbers like "Left Behind." The album opener, "Get Inside," and the snaky "Choose" kick with the agility of Pantera, while the mellower "Monolith" and "Blue Study" rely on Taylor's nasal vocals for emotional punch. Stone Sour probably wouldn't have made it out of Iowa in 2002 without the platinum pedigree of its erstwhile members; still, this is a respectable package of monster riffs and dynamic ideas. --Ian Christe
